Originally from Llysfaen in Caernarfonshire, he was appointed editor of the Welsh newspaper published in America 'Y Drych' in 1869, and remained the newspapers' editor for over forty two years until his death in 1911.

Description

A gemstone from a Roman ring found at the Roman fort in Brecon Gaer and held in the collections at Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales. Roman boys would read and memorise lines from Greek epic poetry and literature. The Odyssey was a favourite of many boys. This tells the story of Odysseus' voyage home from the Trojan War. He can be seen on this gem stone with his faithful dog Argus. Accession number: 25.212/2.2This item is part of the Roman School Teaching Resource for Key Stage 2.
