John L. Evans of Forbes St., Oakland died last Stmday aftemoon of cancer of the stomach at the age of 48. He was born in this crty and was the son of the late Evan Evans, Copper Workq who was one ofthe faithful of Second Avenue Church for many years. The departed lived in Cleveland, Ohio for years but some four years ago, he returned to this city. He is survived by his wife and several children. He was the brother of David J. Evans of Oakland and his sister, IWrs. David Elias Thomas lives in the same neighborhood. He also has a brother and sister who live rn Cleveland. The funeral service was held in Oakland church on Tuesday afternoon and a large crowd of friends and relations carne to pay their last respects. Rev. John R. Thomas and Mr. Stewards, minister of Central Presbyterian church officiated. His remains were buried in Hilldale cemstory. Members of the St. David's Society are reminded of the next monthly meeting to be held Friday night, JuIy 10 in the Wabash Ilepot Building. The committee has not arranged a program for this meeting, but it is expected that each member will arrange something for it ffthe two Joneses-4wen Jons and Evan Jones-are ready to press on the virtum and failures of Thomas Jefferson, the eloquence will be certain to boit over. It will be wroth making an effort to be present. E. S. Griffiths of Cleveland, Ohio was on a business fiip to this city last week. He is busy fiiling orders received from manufacturers of new mills for the big mill that is being built in Monnessen, Pa- Thos. C. Davies, son ofthe Rev. T. C. Davies of Idlewoo{ Pa arrived home at the begrnning of the week to spent a forndght to be present at the annual meeting of the company that he represents. He is enjoying Oklahoma. Mrs. Bennet lVilliams of Boston is visiting the family of her brother, D. R. Davies of East End, formerly of Poultney, Vt. James J. Davies, general representative of the Loyal Order of Moose is visiting the city. He lives in Amderson, Ind, but he was born in Penn. and grew up in Sharon where he has a wide circle of friends. D. R. Williams (Deiniol Arfon) will sail to Wales in a forhight, intends to spend two months there in Bangor where his two sisters live and in BethesdA his birthplace. He plans to attend the Llangollen Eisteddfod.
