Description

Margam opencast coal mine, near the villages of Cefn Cribwr and Kenfig Hill, produces some 350,000 tonnes per year of coking coal; it has been in operation since 2001 and is a continuation of the earlier Park Slip West site. It covers an area of about 196ha and the working area is up to 120m deep. Some of the output is taken to the nearby processing and distribution centre at Onllwyn where it is blended with coal from other sites for delivery to Aberthaw Power Station. The main seams worked range from the Two Feet Nine Seam to the Bute Seam.
