Gunner M. Charles Jenkins, 1587, served with the 121st Battery Royal Field Artillery. Transcript: Guest View 106, High St., Portmadoc, Dear Sister and Brother, Just a few lines to thank you very much for cigarettes I was very pleased with them. I am very sorry to hear Ern is so very bad I expect he finds it very miserable having to stop in bed, how did he do it. If I was him I should give up working up there he has had no luck lately. Well I hope he will soon get better because he is in no club is he. I was surprised to hear Tony was down I would have given a £1 to have seen him. How is he getting in is he going to the front again I wish I was with him. There is no bugger I know up here they never sent for Alf Evans to come here or I should have had one. There was a chap drowned up here from Pontypool by the name of Watkins he was supporting a widowed Mother but I don't think I know him. They sent him home Tuesday or Wednesday had a military funeral and sent 6 men and a Sergeant and a Commander to go to the funeral. They have just rung the fire bell there is a fire at the powder works at Penrhyndeudraeth I have just heard the explosion so it must be serious. Well I must close now as I am off up to see it. With love from your brother, Charles.
