Description

Sam Cook, originally from Liverpool, served as a gunner with the Royal Field Artillery during the First World War. During the war he became engaged to Mary Annie Symmons (neƩ Hughes) of Llanelli, and he sent her this Christmas card in 1916. Note how it includes the words to the Welsh National Anthem - 'Hen Wlad fy Nhadau'. The couple married in Llanelli on 30 June 1917, but Sam was killed in action on the Western Front less than a month later, on 24 July 1917.
