Description

Trevor is seated on the left holding a cigarette with his brother Charles standing in the middle, the third person in the photograph is unknown. Trevor and Charles Smith were two of fourteen children to Gaius and Harriett Smith, 2, Railway Terrace, Blaenavon. family moved from Midsomer Norton in Somerset to find work in the Big Pit at Blaenavon, completing the whole journey on foot. Corporal Charles Smith was a miner at Big Pit and was a weekend soldier with the Territorial Army with the 5thBattalion, Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment. Sapper Trevor Henry Smith served with the Royal Engineers, 170thTunnelling Company. He died at the age of 33 on the 23 November 1917.
