Description

Raymond Statler, son of Mr & Mrs J.H. Statler, of 1, Titchbourne Street, Dunns, Mumbles, husband of Jessie and father of 4, of Dumfries Place, Mumbles. He served as Lance Sergeant 54145, of the 18th Welsh Regiment, and died of his wounds, aged 33, on 13 July 1917, in France. He is buried at Fins New British Cemetery Sorel-Le-Grand, The Somme, France and remembered with honour on the Great War Rood Screen Memorial, All Saints' Church, Mumbles, Swansea A family member noted that 'He had been nine months at the front'. The family photo shows from left to right, John (Jack) Henry, Ray, Lily, Eleanor Jessie (nee Harwood), Baby Rose Laverne and Jessie.
