Description

Charles Henry Malin, with his sister. He served as Private 27490, 1st Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, and was killed in action, aed 20, on 14 April 1918. He is remembered with hnour on Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing, Passchendaele, Belgium and on the Great War Rood Screen Memorial, All Saints' Church, Mumbles, Swansea.
Formerly Private 61555 of the Welsh Regiment. In a rather curious incident, his name was spelt as Malyn on the Road Screen Memorial, All Saints' Church, Mumbles, which was unveiled in 1920. However a relative subsequently complained about the spelling, so on the new memorial, unveiled at Southend, Mumbles, in 2006, it was changed.

I have contacted Mr Heydon, Clerk of the Mumbles Community Council and provided the council with evidence that my relative Charles Henry Malyn has been inorrectly named as Malin. As a result, Mr Heydon has advised me that the Memorial has now been restored to read Malyn. t it seems that the memorial screen at All Saints may now have a reference to Malin as a family name. This is incorrect as his family were literate for more than two centuries before Charles' death. I have documents that show this fact. I trust that you will change this page to reflect my comments and the fact that the Community Council have accepted the evidence that I have passed to them. Thank you for drawing my attention to this injustice. Regards Thomas H Malyn [email protected] .
