Description
Alfred Jenkins was the son of Mr & Mrs William Jenkins of Clifton Terrace, Southend, Swansea, and was married to Ethel Jenkins, King Street, Pembroke Dock. He served as Deck Hand 3709/Sd, Royal Naval Reserve, H.M. Paddle Minesweeper, Queen of the North, and was killed in action by torpedo, aged 26, on the 20th July 1917. He is buried at Noordwijk General Cemetery, Netherlands and is remembered with honour on the Great War Rood Screen Memorial, All Saints' Church, Mumbles, Swansea. Mr. & Mrs. Jenkins still had four other sons in the Navy, William, Harry, Ivor and Ernest. Ernest was killed on 11 November 1917; a son-in-law Mr. W. Bullock was also killed in action.
