Description

Lemuel Thomas Rees of Cardigan (known as Tom) volunteered for service at the start of the war, but was rejected on medical grounds. However, such qualms about his health had disappeared by 1917, when he was conscripted into the army. On the Western Front his life was saved by his Bible which took the brunt of the force of an exploding German shell.
