Description

Pauline Jameson has been described as one of the most distinguished classical actresses of her generation. Born in Norfolk in 1920, she studied at RADA before making her debut at Colwyn Bay Repertory Theatre in 1937. She performed almost weekly at the rep before being offered her first West End part. She went on to become a member of the Bristol Old Vic Company, playing a variety of leading roles, starring alongside such luminaries as John Gielgud, Alec Guinness and Michael Redgrave. Jameson had a long career which included a number of films. She became close friends with Vivien Leigh who was matron of honour at her wedding to Wing-Commander Leslie Lewington. Jameson also appeared regularly on television and radio. Pauline Jameson died in April 2008. Cast photographs taken by Arthur Wrigley of Colwyn Bay. Copies kindly donated by Arthur's daughter Patricia Rigby.
